Everybody is a bartender
Maybe this is just the rant of a bartender who is tired of being told step by step how to do his job, or maybe this is a legit argument about people letting other people do their jobs. I’m not sure, but I’m going to go with the former, just for arguments sake.
The night was slowly coming to an end. It was one of those days at work that you thought would never end. You are constantly bombarded with more work and you feel like you will never catch up. I am working service bar and I get a ticket for seven red-headed sluts. Now maybe it’s because I am from Louisiana and we love everything in excess, but I have always made red-headed sluts with Jager, Crown, and Cranberry. I know most recipes tell you to put peach schnapps instead of crown, but I love crown and I know a lot of bartenders around here who make them that same way.
One of the people in the party who ordered the shots was watching me make the shots and tells her server that “I guess we need to leave and go somewhere that the bartender knows how to make shots”. I do not understand where people get off being bitches like that, but this isn’t really out of the ordinary in a bar. Everyone thinks they are a bartender. Why is it that people receiving services always think they can do a better job than those who are doing the service. If you could do so much better than come on. It’s not that glamorous and it sure isn’t a rewarding profession. I help people have a good time, but I also help most of them drown the unhappiness in their lives.
Don’t get me wrong, I love what I do. It has allowed me to meet many great people along the way, but it has also given me the displeasure of meeting people like the person above. If this person is a bartender somewhere then that makes this situation so much worse. Follow the code, if you have had to deal with pain in the ass people while doing your job, which everyone has been through this, learn some patience and be more appropriate in the way that you comment or criticize someone else’s work. Bottom line is this, don’t be an asshole in public. Oh yeah, you don’t get a pass for being drunk.
